This lady, what can I say? She’s great, like really great. If you read Ashley’s Girl Behind the Blog prompt post already, you heard all about how we met AND our recent family road trip down to Disney! There is no better way to bond than taking 4 tired adults, 4 equally tired children (3 of which are sick) and putting them all in one hotel room for a weekend. Throw in some football and Disney, and a good time will definitely be had by all. And if thats not enough, drive 8 hours each way to get there! Going into this trip we knew it would be nut-so, but we also knew it was going to be an amazingly fun vacation, and it really was. Once you have kids, family vacation isn’t really a time of relaxation anyway. Am I right?!
It’s actually pretty amazing how the Lord brought Ashley and her family into our lives. My good friend Savannah had connected with her through blogging and directed them to our church. I had been praying and talking to Nicolai a lot about how I really wanted a friend who was in the same place in life and who was a kindred spirit. (Please tell me you grew up watching Anne of Green Gables too!) Basically I was feeling super lonely and was asking the Lord to bring me a friend. Savannah told me that a girl named Ashley was coming to visit at church and to keep an eye out for her. We both had our little babes and were standing in the back, so I invited her into the cry room with me. Once we got to talking I realized she was the Ashley I was on the lookout for! We hit it off right away! Both bloggers, 2 little girls around the same ages and both a little (or a lot) sassy. And the rest is history!
Anyway, back to our family vacay. This was Hannah’s first trip to Disney and she loved it! She still talks about meeting Daisy and Minnie. It’s amazing how much money Disney can get you to spend, and you don’t even feel that bad about it because your kids are so dang happy. “Oh, that ice cream bar costs $5? But hey its shaped like Mickey!” When you re-cap a Disney trip it sounds super epic. We went on a safari boat ride, we flew into space, we let 2-yr olds drive cars, we sat in tea cups, we watched Jedi battles, we met pirates, we flew on top of an elephant, we rode mechanical horses, ate messy French donuts and took a train ride…sounds like one crazy day huh? I have to admit, my one regret is not getting Starbucks coffee inside the park. I learned later that their cups have Disneyland magic printed on them!
When I was a kid we always took road trips to the snow and camping with other families and I always loved it! I had really been looking forward to Hannah having a little buddy and being able to travel with another family. I am so thankful to say, it totally lived up to all the hype I had created in my head. We so love our friends and can’t wait for our next adventure together! Did you travel with other families as a kid? Do you travel with other families now? I want to know!
